Project Pride SRQ has made history by unveiling the first-ever local LGBTQ+ billboards, celebrating Gulfcoast Pride (formerly Sarasota and Manatee Pride). These bold, vibrant billboards are placed prominently on US-41 in Bradenton and Stickney Point in Sarasota, sending a message of pride, inclusion, and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community in our region.
This milestone is about more than just promotion—it's a powerful statement for visibility. Public representation helps to break down barriers, reduce stigma, and foster acceptance. By boldly placing these billboards in highly visible areas, Project Pride SRQ is championing our community's visibility and encouraging everyone to "Lead with Love"—the theme of this year's Gulfcoast Pride Festival, coming up on October 19th.
Visibility in public spaces, like these billboards, can have a profound impact, especially for LGBTQ+ youth and those who might feel isolated. These signs remind everyone that love, diversity, and pride are celebrated, visible, and supported right here in our community.
A special thanks goes to Project Pride SRQ’s board members, including Erica Serine, our Marketing Committee Chair, and Justyn Hunter-Ceruti, whose hard work and dedication made these billboards a reality. Their efforts are helping to foster a more inclusive, welcoming environment for all.
We also want to recognize India X Miller for her wonderful photos showcasing the excitement of seeing the billboard in person. Her enthusiasm mirrors the excitement building for the festival.
As we approach October 19th, let’s continue to celebrate this message of love and pride. Together, we are making a powerful statement: that we lead with love, that diversity makes us stronger, and that our community stands proud.
We can’t wait to see you all at Gulfcoast Pride! 🌈
